So too, there are risks for building owners, employers, managers and insurers, but there are simple strategies that can reduce the risk for everyone:

• Provide stairway evacuation devices that can save lives
• Develop emergency evacuation procedures
• Prepare personal emergency evacuation plans (PEEPs) for everyone needing assistance
• Use evacuation devices in evacuation drills
• Train staff in their use

Nobody should be left in ‘a Safe Place’ whilst everyone else evacuates, corporate manslaughter is real.
